Billing Frequency & Payment Options

Your cooperative is currently the only electric utility in the State of New Jersey to have 100% of its customers served with an automated meter reading system. Unlike other utilities, there are no meter readers who must access your meter each month to record your consumption. Our system obtains your consumption on an hourly basis and supplies it to our billing system so we can accurately and automatically calculate your bill. We print and mail bills four times each month. Upon receipt of your bill, you can pay by mail or come to our offices. At present, we do not accept credit cards for the payment of your monthly bill.

For your convenience, we offer a pair of alternatives to the standard billing methodology. These are Levelized Billing and Online / Electronic Bill Payment. See below for more detail.

Online / Electronic Bill Payment

You have the option of paying your bill either online or electronically. These may sound the same but there are differences. The online option involves you logging into our secure website and authorizing payment. You can elect to have an e-mail notification of your bill being ready or you can receive a paper notification via the mail. The electronic option differs in that we draft an account of your choosing monthly when your bill is due. Both options let you eliminate writing a check and offer secure and easy means of paying your electric bill. Not only that, when you use our service for paying your bill as opposed to a third party service (from your bank, for example), you reduce the cost of processing your payment and that helps us meet our primary objective, "Provide the highest possible quality of electric service at the lowest possible cost."

Levelized Billing

To better serve our members who wish to smooth out the "peaks and valleys" in their monthly bills, we offer a rolling 12-month levelized billing. Here's how it works.

    1. Your levelized billing amount will now change monthly to reflect a rolling 12-month average. You will no longer pay the same amount each month. Your monthly payment will change moderately reflecting changes caused by weather and usage patterns. This change is designed so that your debit/credit balance is fine-tuned to reflect actual usage conditions, and eliminate final "catch-up" balances.

    2. You must have 12 months of billing history with us and have a zero balance on your account to participate. To calculate your payment, we have used your most recent twelve months history. To reiterate the program, your levelized billing amount will be adjusted monthly on a rolling twelve-month usage average.

    3. A member will NOT be eligible to participate in the plan unless the bill received in June is paid in full by the due date of that bill.

    4. All monthly levelized billing payments must be paid when due. Since the amount of the bill is derived from previous usage, it is imperative that all payments be made. Failure to do so would result in your removal from the program. If you are removed from the program for any reason, you will not be allowed to participate again for 6 months.

    5. This program is available to all homeowners & renters, especially those who have large swings in seasonal usage.

    6. Participation in the program will continue until the member notifies the co-op in writing that they wish to terminate their participation.

Although your actual bill might be less than the levelized amount in the beginning of the billing year, you must pay the levelized amount. The difference goes towards paying your larger bills. The changes to this program will adjust your payment for fluctuations in weather and kilowatt hour consumption on a timelier basis.

Those members who have electric heat or air conditioning should seriously consider joining the program. If you have any questions or comments, please contact our Billing Department at (973) 875-5101 Ext.104 or E-mail us for an application.
