Conserve, Recycle and Reuse

We have the conserve portion thoroughly covered elsewhere. On this page, we offer links and information on how to recycle and reuse. Keeping materials out of landfills through recycling and reuse helps keep costs down.

Recycle

Locally, recycling can be handled by SCMUA and Grinnell.

SCMUA handles your traditional household wastes and offers special events where hazardous and special wastes can be disposed of properly.

Grinnell handles larger items and harder to handle items such as construction and demolition materials..

Sussex REC offers the opportunity to recycle your rechargeable batteries and cell phones right in our lobby. A convenient box is right by the customer service window. When full, we ship it to the program manager where they properly recycle the batteries and offer the phones to soldiers deployed overseas.

Reuse

Freecycle is an online service whereby you post an item you no longer need and an interested party comes and gets it from you. One man's junk is another's treasure!

Craig's List is not a recycling service per se but if you have something to move and want it to go to a good home rather than the dump, give them a try. Of course, there is always ebay. Not only might you protect the environment through reuse, you might get a little cash for your efforts!
